We are excited to announce changes to our Holiday Party this year. Due to changes in the Colorado legislature this year, PELA has a unique opportunity to push through employee-friendly legislation, like equal pay, FAMLI, and an awesome proposal to amend CADA. The CADA proposal includes expanding protections to independent contractors, increasing the damages caps, and clarifying that CADA is not subject to CGIA. HOWEVER, to seize the opportunity to pass new legislation, PELA must substantially increase its 2019 lobbying budget.

To achieve PELA’s aggressive legislative goals, the Board voted to apply all Holiday Party proceeds this year to the lobbying fund. To stay within tax guidelines, this means the holiday party is free this year to members. We will be issuing refunds to everyone who has already registered and paid. The refunds may take a few days to process, especially if you paid by check. Those who do attend are encouraged to make a generous donation to PELA’s lobbying fund, with a suggested minimum $40 donation.  Members can also contribute through PELA’s website (there is a “GIVE NOW” button on the front page that takes you to this page: https://colopela.org/Please-Give! - (please include the exclamation point in the link). You may also donate at the party. If you donate through the website, please leave your name in the comment box. You still must register to attend the party so we know how many people are coming, but you will not be asked for payment information when you register. Donations to the lobbying fund are not tax deductible.

To achieve funding goals, we are also holding a silent auction at the holiday party.    We are excited about our offerings and ask you to stop by the auction table. If you would like to make a donation to the auction, please contact Rachel Ellis at REE@livelihoodlaw.com.

While we disagree on politics some of the time, Democratic control of the house, senate, and governor gives PELA a tremendous opportunity to pass new legislation favorable to our clients. As is always the case, your donations will not be used for any specific candidates/politicians, but is used simply to pay our lobbyists to wrangle up the necessary votes.

You still must register to attend the party so we know how many people are coming. This is important.
